SaleStash Privacy Policy
Summary
SaleStash tracks Steam game prices and tells you when they drop. It has no analytics and no crash reporting of its own. The developer does not collect, receive or store your personal data. Your watchlist and settings stay on your device unless you choose to back them up or turn on the optional cloud sync. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, and Google handles the data those ads use (see Ads below).
Data stored on your device
- Your watchlist: game ids and names, current prices, and the price history the app records while a game is tracked.
- Your settings: alert prices and percent-drop alerts, store region, check frequency, quiet hours, free-game alerts, sale reminders, and which notifications were already sent.
This data is not sent to the developer. It is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data, except for any Android backup described below.
Data sent to other services
To work, the app talks to two third-party services. They receive your internet address like any website or app you use, and their own terms and privacy policies apply.
- Steam (Valve Corporation). The app sends game ids and your store region (a country code) to get names and prices. If you import your wishlist, the 17-digit SteamID64 you type is sent to Steam to read your public wishlist. The app saves that SteamID64 on your device only, so wishlist auto-sync can re-import your wishlist; it is never sent to the developer. Clear the field in Settings to forget it. Game ids are also sent to Steam to look up each game's tags. See Steam's privacy policy.
- CheapShark. The app sends game ids and any title you search for in the All games tab to get deals and each game's lowest price ever. See cheapshark.com.
Ads
The free version shows a banner ad, a native ad and, if you choose to watch one for extra game slots, a rewarded video ad, all served by Google AdMob. Pro removes the ads. To show ads, Google may collect and use your device's advertising ID, IP address and general device and app information, and may use cookies or similar technology. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU, EEA and UK), the app asks for your consent first through Google's consent form, and you can change your choice later in Settings (Ad privacy settings). On Android you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in the Android settings. The developer does not receive this data. See Google's advertising policies.
Purchases
Pro is a one-time purchase handled by Google Play. The app asks Google Play whether you own Pro and keeps only a yes or no on your device. The developer does not receive your payment details or account information.
Cloud sync (optional)
If you turn on cloud sync in Settings, you sign in with your Google account and allow the app to use its own hidden app-data folder in your Google Drive. This is the only Google access the app asks for (the drive.appdata permission). The app cannot see your other Drive files, and other apps cannot see this folder.
- What is saved: one small file with your watchlist (game ids and names), your alert prices and percent-drop alerts, and a list of games you removed so removals reach your other devices.
- Who can read it: only you, through your Google account. The developer does not receive the file, your email address or any other account data. The app shows your email on the screen so you know which account is in use.
- Turning it off: Turn off in Settings stops syncing on that device and forgets the sign-in. The file stays in your Drive until you delete it: in Google Drive on the web go to Settings, Manage apps, find SaleStash and choose Delete hidden app data. You can also remove the app's access in your Google Account under Security, Third-party access.
- Google's own terms and privacy policy apply to Google sign-in and Drive.
Notifications and background checks
The app checks prices in the background at the interval you choose and creates notifications on your device. Notifications are created locally. On Android 13 and newer the app asks for permission before showing them.
Backups
- Backup file. If you use Back up in Settings, a file with your game ids, names and alert prices is saved to the location you pick. The app does not upload it anywhere. Keep it wherever you are comfortable.
- Android backup. If device backup is turned on, Android may back up the app's watchlist and settings to your Google Account and restore them on a new phone. That is handled by Google under Google's terms. You can turn it off in your Android settings.
Permissions
- Internet: to fetch prices and deals, to sync if you turn on cloud sync, and to load ads and check Pro.
- Advertising ID: used by Google AdMob for ads in the free version.
- Notifications: to send price, free-game and sale reminder alerts.
Google Play
If you installed the app from Google Play, Google may give the developer anonymous crash and performance statistics from users who allowed it. That is handled by Google, not by the app.
Children
SaleStash is not directed at children under 13. The developer does not collect personal data from anyone.
Your choices
- Remove any game from the watchlist at any time.
- Turn off notifications in Android settings, or set quiet hours and alert types in the app.
- Delete all app data by uninstalling the app or choosing Clear data in Android's app settings.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date.
